Extremely strange 20471120 jacket, built around a deliberately distorted take on a classic tailored blazer. The outer is a glossy black quilted fabric with fine blue and pale gold vertical striping, while almost every edge is finished with thick, exposed grey wool/felt trim.

The really unusual part is the construction: enormous curved cut-out panels run down both sides of the body, exposing the grey wool interior and creating a segmented, almost skeletal outline. The same wool binding traces the lapels, collar, front opening, hem and sleeve cuffs, while the lower front is divided into multiple pocket-like sections. The jacket closes with a series of Velcro tabs rather than conventional buttons, adding to its almost prototype/industrial quality.

The result is somewhere between a tailored jacket, padded protective garment and abstract textile sculpture — extremely characteristic of 20471120’s experimental approach to clothing and reconstruction.

I would date this c. 2002–2004, most likely around 2003. 20471120 was still presenting collections in Tokyo in 2003, including its SS03 collection, and the label’s 2004 retrospective material documents this same highly experimental period.
