Bernhard Willhelm Sculptural Lace Ruffle Shorts — c. late 2000s
Exceptional Bernhard Willhelm archive shorts, dating to approximately the late 2000s, in a finely textured charcoal / black striped textile.
An extremely sculptural construction, with the body built from numerous gathered and articulated panels that expand dramatically from the waist into pointed, wing-like side extensions. The exaggerated volume is pulled back into tightly gathered elasticated hems, creating an almost balloon-like silhouette with long hanging drawcords.
The reverse is particularly striking, featuring a large antique-cream lace ruffle running beneath the waistband and contrasting beautifully against the dark, industrial-looking textile. The combination of romantic lace, exaggerated bloomers and highly engineered volume is quintessentially Willhelm.
Size: approx. W30 / EU 44
Waist: 38cm flat / 76cm circumference
Condition: Good vintage condition with general signs of age/wear. Missing one button, as pictured.
A particularly unusual and highly collectible Bernhard Willhelm piece, with the kind of extreme pattern-cutting and theatrical proportion that makes his archive so distinctive.
