Exceptionally rare early-2000s Carpe Diem back-lace boots, made entirely from black python leather. This is the kind of construction that made the original Carpe Diem footwear so important: extremely simple at first glance, but incredibly considered in pattern, material and construction. The back-lace python model is documented as the S63M, with examples specifically described as ultra-rare.
The boots have Carpe Diem’s characteristic elongated curved/upturned toe, tall shaft and narrow, elongated last. The entire upper is formed from python, with the scales changing direction across different sections of the boot and becoming particularly pronounced around the shaft. The upper is triple-layered, allowing the tall shaft to be folded, collapsed or worn extended, radically changing the shape and proportions of the boot.
The back-lacing system is particularly beautiful, running vertically through the rear of the shaft and allowing the leather to gather and compress around the leg. The construction is extremely substantial throughout, with carefully joined leather panels, visible edge finishing and a heavy stacked leather heel. The soles are traditionally attached with visible metal screws/rivets, giving the footwear that unmistakable hand-built, artisanal quality rather than the appearance of a conventional mass-produced boot.
The python has developed an incredible dry, textured surface with the scales remaining highly pronounced across the entire boot. Original Carpe Diem examples from this period are associated with Italian production and traditional leather construction; comparable early-00s python back-lace examples are documented with leather lining, leather insoles and Blake construction.
There is some damage to the interior leather around the back-lace tie area. This is largely contained to the decorative/lacing section and does not detract from the overall structure or wearability of the boots. Please examine the photos carefully.
