Kosmetique Label c.2007 Accordion Military Jacket
Rare Kosmetique Label jacket by Japanese designer Kanya Miki, from his Paris-based label active during the mid-2000s. Miki later went on to create Ekam and JjEeRrEeZz, with Kosmetique Label representing his earlier, more tailored and experimental work.
A highly constructed black military-inspired jacket with an elongated, fitted silhouette and extensive layered detailing. The jacket features a high standing collar with overlapping wraparound panels, articulated shoulder epaulettes secured with embossed gold buttons, and a series of long straps running through the collar and chest, terminating in a distinctive gold rectangular buckle at the front. The front closure is concealed beneath a wide overlapping placket with gold-button fastening, while the body is shaped through curved, architectural seam lines running from the underarm towards the lower pockets. Large angled flap pockets sit across the hips, layered over additional vertically pleated utility compartments beneath them. The sleeves are particularly intricate, constructed with long vertical panels and multiple accordion-like pleats through the lower arm, finishing in wide buttoned cuffs with matching gold hardware. A chest welt detail and extensive topstitching throughout reinforce the military/technical character. The combination of severe tailoring, functional detailing and decorative hardware is characteristic of Miki’s early Kosmetique Label work, which was known for combining narrow European tailoring with unconventional, more feminine details.
