Exceptional Limi Feu coat with an incredibly unusual construction that almost completely rejects conventional outerwear patterning. Cut in dense black wool, the body is built around an exaggerated double-zip system: the central zipper can be opened and repositioned to dramatically alter the shape and volume of the coat.
The enormous batwing sleeves are integrated into the body through sweeping curved panels, while the lower construction is almost literally trouser-like — with the coat appearing to turn a pair of trousers upside down, complete with articulated fastening straps at the hem. Large hood with an integrated belt/strap adjustment, oversized flap pockets and multiple sculptural folds complete the piece.
A particularly strong example of Limi Feu’s experimental approach to proportion and garment construction, where familiar garments are deconstructed and reassembled into something almost architectural. Her work from this period was noted for oversized, unconventional silhouettes and draped construction.
