Extremely unusual Y’s by Yohji Yamamoto trousers in black cotton jersey, with a very deep drop crotch and an exaggerated, almost skirt-like volume through the legs. The fabric hangs in long, soft panels rather than following a conventional trouser silhouette, creating a dramatic split and layered effect as the legs move.
The waistband is particularly interesting: heavily gathered elastic construction allows it to sit naturally without needing to be pulled tight, while the trousers can comfortably accommodate a wide range of waist sizes. The defining detail is the contrasting hand-like blanket stitch embroidery, running vertically down the rear and continuing around the curved opening of the side pocket. The same embroidery yarn appears throughout the construction, deliberately exposing and emphasising the seams.
Made from a soft cotton jersey with knitted cotton sections and linen embroidery yarn, giving the otherwise monochrome piece subtle textural variation. A very strange, beautifully constructed example of Y’s pattern cutting.
